The d4vd case: In the back of my mind you died and I didn't even cry no not a single tear

Let’s cut through the noise. In early September, Los Angeles police found the remains of a teenage girl—later identified as Celeste Rivas Hernandez—inside an impounded Tesla registered to singer d4vd (David Anthony Burke). The car had been ticketed, towed, and only then opened, where the body—badly decomposed—was discovered. As of now, investigators say the cause and manner of death remain undetermined, and d4vd has not been named a suspect. That’s the ground truth.

What Happened

  • Aug 27–Sept 5: The Tesla sat for days; a parking citation was issued Sept 3, and it was impounded Sept 5. Police discovered the body on Sept 8 after a foul odor was reported.
  • Sept 8 onward: LAPD’s robbery-homicide division took the case; the medical examiner has not yet ruled on cause or manner of death. Press reports note the remains were in the vehicle’s front trunk.
  • Late Sept: Reporting indicates Celeste had likely been dead “for several weeks” before discovery. Separately, the singer moved out of a Hollywood Hills home that police searched; he had been on tour when the news broke.

The person found dead is Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

She was 15 years old at the time her body was identified and she had been reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California, in 2024 (on April 5, 2024) when she was about 13. Over the course of 2024, she was reportedly reported missing multiple times.

Many public narratives and rumors are asserting that Celeste was d4vd’s ex-girlfriend and a minor in a relationship, but these are not confirmed by authoritative sources as of now. Some evidence that feeds speculation: the matching “Shhh…” tattoo, and media quoting that her mother said Celeste had been dating someone named “David.” But police officials have been cautious about commenting on relationship status. One LAPD captain said it would be “premature” to make claims about a personal relationship. However, there are so many evidences pointing that d4vd might be the perpetrator.

d4vd once released a track titled “Celeste”, and in its music video there are scenes that appear to show a body being moved from a car trunk, hinting at themes of murder. With the current case, many have found these artistic choices chilling in retrospect.

How this will ultimately conclude remains to be seen, but it is undeniably a deeply shocking and disturbing case
